Chris Velan and The Big Wild

1% For the Planet
Chris Velan is one of 41 musicians who have donated, among other things, their time, talent and vocal chords to 1% for the Planet: The Music, Vol. 1. All proceeds from sales of the album benefit 1% for the Planet and support work on behalf of their global network of environmental organizations. As a 1% for the Planet member and featured musician, Chris has chosen to support The Big Wild!
Chris will be touring across the country and raising awareness for 1% for the Planet in the spring of 2010. He'll be playing at in-store events at Mountain Equipment Coop and evening concerts in seven Canadian cities. Check out the tour dates below to see when he's coming to your town.
Through Chris's Eyes
Born and raised in Montreal, Chris feels strongly about Canadian conservation. He certainly didn't plan to lead the life of a musician and environmental activist. Once upon a time, he studied human rights law. After graduation, he spent a year working as an apprentice. Through a series of happen-stance, Chris found himself in Sierra Leone, working for humanitarian causes -- he hasn't looked back since. His experience in Africa has influenced his music. It also informs the role he believes humans should play in the conservation of our planet.
